Confessions of an ADDiva
Updated June 13, 2014.
It is not often that I take a book about ADHD with me to read on vacation, but this book -- Confessions of an ADDiva: Midlife in the Non-Linear Lane by Linda Roggli -- is quite different from the usual book on ADHD. I started reading it just a day or two before leaving for our family beach trip...and I did not want to put it down.
In Confessions of an ADDiva, Roggli shares about her journey living with undiagnosed ADHD for more than 40 years and the changes that took place in her life following diagnosis.
She tackles a very serious subject with such warmth and humor that she not only helps us to better understand ADHD in women, but also to value and celebrate the unique strengths that each and every ADDiva possesses.
Roggli knows that living with ADHD can create many challenges and quite a few emotions – including feelings of isolation, self-doubt, and even shame. In the chapters of her book, she explains what ADHD can feel like and how it can show up in a woman’s life. Through her creative descriptions -- her candid confessions -- she provides clarity and ‘ah-ha’ moments to her readers. By sharing about her own vulnerabilities and misunderstood situations that can be so familiar to women with ADHD she creates a “sisterhood” of sorts so that women beginning their journey in understanding their own ADHD do not feel so alone. And she does this with hope and optimism.
If you are a woman living with undiagnosed ADHD you may recognize yourself in the pages of Confessions of an ADDiva. Or if you are a loved one of a woman with ADHD, you may feel as though you are reading about her through Roggli’s experiences and by doing this you may find that you understand this loved one much better.
Confessions of an ADDiva is positive, affirming and full of hope for all ADDivas! Roggli encourages women to embrace their ADD-ish magnificence, to trust in their abilities, and to look toward the future with a new perspective...because the future holds wonderful possibilities.
The book is an absolute joy to read!
