How to Water a Jade Tree
- 1). Check your jade plant's soil. It should be dry to the touch before you water. If there's even a hint of moisture in the soil, do not water. Overwatering can cause root rot, which kills the roots and then the entire plant.
- 2). Gently squeeze one of your jade plant's leaves. If the leaf is firm and plump, the plant needs no water, even if the soil is totally dry. If the leaf is squishy and easily folded between your fingers, the plant needs water.
- 3). Water the soil around your jade plant until water trickles into the flood tray. Wait about five minutes for all of the excess to trickle into the tray, then empty it. Jade plants can't stand waterlogged soil or wet feet.
- 4). Water your jade plant about three times a month in the warm seasons and once or twice a month in colder weather. Winter growth is slower, so your jade doesn't need as much nurturing.
