Instructions for a Zipper Top Lined Tote Bag
- 1). Cut a rectangle from a piece of fabric that measures 18 inches by 24 inches and use it to make a second identical cutout.
- 2). Cut two more identical rectangles from a different fabric. If you used a solid color for the first two rectangles, use a patterned fabric for the third and fourth rectangles.
- 3). Choose the patterned or solid fabric to be the outside fabric for the tote bag. Lay these rectangles side by side on a flat surface with the good side of the fabric facing downward.
- 4). Place the remaining rectangles on top of the rectangles on the flat surface with the good side of the rectangles facing upward. Pin the edges of the fabric together.
- 5). Sew the four sides of each set of rectangles together and then place one set on top of the other with the fabric chosen for the outside of the tote bag facing inward.
- 6). Pin the two 18-inch sides together and one of the 24 inch sides. Sew these sides together.
- 7). Fold over ¼-inch of the unfinished side on to the inside fabric of the tote bag and sew the fold in place to make a smooth line for the zipper.
- 8). Turn the tote bag right side out.
- 9). Open the zipper and pin one side to each of the open sides of the tote bag. Pin the zipper on the inside of the tote bag with the right side of the zipper facing outward. Sew the zipper in place.

Cut two lengths of 1-inch-wide piece of ribbon, each 24 inches long. Pin the ends of one of the ribbons to the front of the tote bag, near the top of the bag. Pin the other ribbon to the back of the back. Sew the ribbon ends to the bag.
