Dominant Color

• When combining more than one color in interior decor, there should always be a dominant color. Begin by deciding whether you want the room to be black with red accents or red with black accents. Red raises the energy level in a room, stimulates conversation and encourages the desire to eat. In feng shui, red is a yang color, which means it provides positive energy, and it is considered a lucky color. Black is a yin color, which means it promotes physical and mental healing and relaxation. It is also symbolizes money and income.
  
  

Cabinets

• The cabinets are one of the most prominent features in a kitchen. One option is to paint the cabinets red, paint the wall behind them black, and place black splashbacks underneath, leading to black work tops. This will make a real feature of the cabinets. Similarly, black cabinets on a red wall will make the cabinets more of a feature. The other option is to paint the cabinets black, paint the wall behind them black, and use red splashbacks. Paint large red squares on a black wall -- or visa versa -- then mount pictures on the red area, creating a frame. Stencil black vines or floral patterns onto a red wall for a nature-inspired effect. For a more contemporary feel, stencil small shapes such as circles or squares onto the wall. Start in the top corner and bring the pattern down and across the wall.
