Room Color Ideas for a Boy's Room
- Boys normally want their rooms to look like a boy actually lives there. They do not want pink, purple or any variation of those colors on their walls or even in their rooms. Boys prefer dark or bold colors that go along with guy themes, such as the military or action figures.
- Blue is the basic boy color, but this doesn't mean that it has to be baby blue or even all blue. For a baby boy's room, add colors that complement blue, such as yellow, to make the room bright and sunny. Or use a theme of sky and sun. You could also add varying degrees of blue or blue-greens to give the room an ocean theme. Dark navy trim would add a bold contrast that gives your baby boy a wide variation of color for the eyes to take in.
- Pick out a cartoon to theme the room after, and choose colors based on the theme. For example, for Mickey Mouse, red, yellow and black are the main colors, and for Superman, choose blue and red. You don't have to overdo the colors, but just highlight the room with them. Maybe paint one wall red in the case of Mickey Mouse, and paint the trim in black. Position other red, yellow and black items in the room, such as a lamp or pillows, to bring the colors into the room.
- Lean toward nature. Most boys love getting dirty outside and would prefer to stay out than in, so bring the outdoors in for them. Paint in a variety of greens, as well as some browns, on walls and trim. Add some hanging fake plants in a couple corners and a fort like a bunk bed to complete the look. If you want, you can even paint some tropical trees on the one wall to make it feel like the jungle. A different theme version for greens and browns can be army men. Instead of added plants, hang up other interesting items, such as an army helmet and binoculars.
