How to Make Roller Shades Fit a Window
- 1). Put up the roller shade's hanging brackets on both sides of the opening to be covered. Take a measuring tape and find the distance from one bracket to the other, determining the size shade required.
- 2). Inspect the two mechanisms on the ends of the roller shade and locate a small stationary pin on one end. With needle-nose pliers remove the pin, giving you access to the barrel.
- 3). Remove the barrel and use a small saw to cut it to the desired size which was determined in step one. Use scissors to cut the excess shade hanging from the cut barrel.
- 4). Unroll the shade to its full length. Measure and mark off the new width with a yardstick and level. Use a pencil to draw a guiding line down the whole window shade. Cut with the line using scissors.
- 5). Replace the metal the pin and take the newly-cut window shade and install it into the brackets.
