  South Asia is the region in Asia located south of the Himalayan Mountains and east of the Caspian Sea. India is the largest country in the South Asia region and experiences several climate regions. South Asia experiences all four seasons: spring runs from December to February, summer from March to May, Autumn from June to August, and winter from September to November.
  
  

Alpine/Mountain

• The climate of this region of South Asia is on the northern most part of India meeting the Himalayan Mountains. Temperatures drop below freezing during the winter months of May through October with cold winds and snow fall. In the summer months of June through September, the temperature rises to 15 degrees Celsius.
  
  

Subtropical

• The subtropical climate region covers most of the northern part of India.The summer temperatures are hot and wet; during the winter months, temperatures may drop down to freezing in the higher regions.
  
  

Tropical

• The tropical regions of South Asia are divided into Tropical Wet Monsoon and Tropical Dry. This region consists of the northern to central India as well as the coastal regions. During the monsoon season, the weather is warm and humid and frequent thunderstorms occur. During the dry season, the region experiences semi-desert conditions with much less rainfall.
  
  

Desert

• The desert region of South Asia is located east of the Caspian Sea and Northwest of the Himalayan Mountains; this region experiences warm to high temperatures and little rainfall. The desert region is home to cacti and similar plants that can tolerate the arid conditions.
  
  

Savanna

• Central to South India experiences a Savanna climate; the temperatures are warm to high rising in summer months up to 50 degrees Celsius. This region only experiences rainfall during the summer months. The area's plant life consists mainly of open areas of tall and short grass.
