- 1). Fully charge your laptop before you leave for the airport. Alter the settings on your laptop to ensure a longer battery life. This includes dimming the screen light, turning off Wi-Fi if you won't be using it and closing background programs that you're not currently using. Power outlets are available on some flights, but rarely in economy class. If there are no available outlets, you have to ensure you are getting as much time out of your laptop as possible.
- 2). Leave your laptop turned off during the "critical stages" of the flight. Most airlines require you to turn off electronic devices during the take-off and the landing when the plane is below 10,000 feet.
- 3). Protect the content of your laptop by making sure that you have password protection to stop anyone using your laptop without your consent. You can also protect yourself from theft by backing up the data on your laptop on separate devices.The content on your laptop is likely to be more valuable to you than the machine itself.
