How to Create a Space Theme Backdrop
- 1). Design the backdrop, either by hand with a pencil and paper, or using a computer program. Before you start to paint, you need to have a clear idea of what you want the backdrop to look like. Determine all the space theme elements that you want to have in the backdrop. This might include the moon, stars, planets and a rocket ship. Have the entire backdrop design chosen and drawn out before moving to Step 2.
- 2). Hang the canvas on a wall or other flat surface. Place the image on the bed of an opaque projector. Place the projector so that it is far enough away from the canvas that the entire image is projected onto the canvas. Turn off the lights in the room so that it is as dark as possible.
- 3). Trace the design onto the canvas using the lines projected. Do not add value or color yet, but simply trace the lines exactly as you see them. Keep a copy of the design in front of you so that you can reference it if necessary.
- 4). Remove the canvas from the wall. Place it on the ground in a well-lit area that can get messy, such as a basement or your backyard.
- 5). Paint the canvas using house paint in various colors. Use the lines that you projected onto the canvas to guide you in terms of where you need to put color.
- 6). Allow the paint to dry.
- 7). Hang the space theme backdrop.
