Melissa Etheridge: Lucky
About.com Rating
Melissa Etheridge's Lucky arrived in stores on February 10, 2004. Melissa's newly married. Will her songs still carry the passion we love Melissa for?
Lucky
The title song starts us off on the new journey of Melissa Etheridge's life. She's in love. When I heard this song, I couldn't help but imagine the story of Melissa and Tammy Lynn Michaels getting together. "You looked at me and smiled. Said get ready to get wild." It's a great opening to her album.
This is a fun, rocking song of new love.
This Moment/If you Want To
This Moment is a sweet love song. I can imagine the girls slow-dancing to this one at the bar. However, I found If You Want To to be the weakest song on the album. This one should have never made it to the CD. After only one listening, I had to skip this song every time I listened to this CD. It seems like Melissa is trying to hard to find words that rhyme. And the chorus, "If you want to..." over and over is just annoying.
Breathe/Mercy
Breathe is the first song I heard from Melissa's new CD. When I heard the lyrics, I thought it was a song she had written to her ex, Julie Cypher. Imagine my surprise, when I read the liner notes and saw the Melissa did not write this song. I think this is the first song that has appeared on a Melissa album that she has not written. The song fits Melissa so well, it's no surprise that she chose to include it on her album.
Mercy is Melissa's song about being over 40 and finding new love. Not one of the strongest on the album, a little too much rhyming, but it works.
Secret Agent
Secret Agent is one HOT song! You know the woman, she is kind of like Marina from The L Word. She's so hot, all the girls and boys fall for her. This song is an ode to her.
"All the boys want to know if she's got something to hide. All the girls are relieved, she's working for the other side."
