Accounting Fundamentals

• The John Jay College of Criminal Justice at the City University of New York (CUNY) offers four security-related courses of which students are required to take three to meet the security management major requirements. • The sociology of corporate crime is a security-related course that allows students the opportunity to explore how society views and defines crime. Students review literature on the economic and social costs of white-collar crime in contrast to street crime. They examine different social contexts in terms of understanding a society's response to corporate employees who commit crime and how the crime affects the victim as well as the political affects of crime on society. Risk Analysis, Loss Prevention and Evaluation

• Courses in risk analysis, loss prevention and evaluation of security standards are the foundation for any program in security management. In the first course, students learn how to analyze risk by reviewing case studies of security surveys, audits and threats. They study analytical approaches in order to assess risk incidents related to intrusion and asset loss. The purpose of the course is to help students develop emergency intervention plans in order to manage detection and response and minimimize loss to a company's security system. Students also learn how to evaluate security management programs. They evaluate industry standards and conduct quantitative and qualitative studies on the vulnerability of various organizations' security systems.
  
  

Earth Systems and the Environment

• Aquaculture and the Environment: Science, History and Policy (earth systems) is a security-related course focusing on food. Offered through the Woods Institute for the Environment, a part of Stanford University, the course is available for both undergraduate and graduate students interested in rural development and sustainable agriculture. Students review literature on the global demand for seafood and fish products in relation to the production of aquaculture. They learn how to manage aquaculture and examine case studies of salmon, tuna and shrimp farming; the focus of these studies centers on major rural farming countries such as Chile and Vietnam. • Purdue University offers a great variety of courses through its colleges and schools that focus on security-related topics. For example, the Aerospace Studies Department of the College of Liberal Arts offers two courses in national security affairs. Part of the University of Denver, the college offers both online and on-campus programming. The Information Security emphasis is ideal for students who want to enter the network security field. Students of this program prepare for challenges related to securing networks and coordinating the physical security of an organization.
