How to Check Your Medicaid Eligibility Online
- 1). Determine your eligibility group. Medicaid is available to pregnant women, children, parents or guardians of children, disabled and elderly. You must also be a U.S. citizen or lawfully admitted immigrant.
- 2). Go to the Medicaid website for your state. You can visit the National Association of State Medicaid Directors for help locating the website in your state.
- 3). Check for a pre-screening section. Many of the Medicaid websites offer a pre-screening service to determine eligibility. Access Florida, the site for Florida Medicaid, allows applicants to answer basic questions about household, income, assets and expenses. The information is submitted and a decision on whether or not the applicant is eligible to apply for assistance is returned immediately.
- 4). Look for information on the site. If the Medicaid website does not automatically pre-screen applicants, you can find the specific guidelines listed on the site. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services features a "Who Qualifies?" section. There is also a Medicaid eligibility manual to download.
- 5). Refer to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services website. The site provides useful information about Medicaid coverage details and eligibility screening.
