• If writing is your strong suit, consider a host of unconventional writing scholarships. Scholarships include the opportunity to live in the college dorm of a classic novelist or write an essay in less than four sentences. For example, as of 2011, Ursinus College offers majors in creative writing the opportunity to win $30,000 per year and live in the same room J.D. Salinger occupied during his college days at Ursinus. Zinch's Three Sentence Essay contest awards winners weekly with a $1,000 scholarship for answering a short essay question.

• Advocates of healthy lifestyles often encourage students to follow suit using food-related scholarships. For example, the Vegetarian Resource Scholarship is available to college students with a proven track record of promoting vegetarianism while in high school or in the community. Documentation of your involvement is required to prove your commitment to healthy living. The Vegetarian Resource Group offers two $5,000 scholarships as of 2011.
  
  

Animal Lovers

• Animal lovers have a range of opportunities when applying for college scholarships. Your ability to prove that you can master the many calls of a duck can land you a scholarship with the Chick and Sophie Major Memorial Duck Calling Contest. As of 2009, the scholarship awards a first-place winner with a $2,000 scholarship. Studying animals can also land you a scholarship for school. Students in the Department of Environmental and Resource Sciences at the University of Nevada at Reno can apply to receive a Dannie Jasmine scholarship. The scholarship is reserved for students committed to protecting the environment of mule and black-tailed deer and their habitats. As of 2011, the scholarship is $500.
  
  

Physical Stature

• Physical stature is one way to earn money for college. If you are a man taller than 6 feet 2 inches or a woman taller than 5 feet 10 inches, you can apply to receive a Tall Club International scholarship award. As of 2011, Tall Club International offers scholarships in the amount of $1,000. If you are less than 4 feet 10 inches in height, you can apply for the Little People of America Scholarship. Little People of America also offer a scholarship for students who are medically diagnosed with dwarfism. Award amounts vary.
