Caught Between A Traffic Jam And A Windmill Blade: A Renewable Energy Irony

1
The other day I was driving along I-10 in Houston TX.
It was a normal day which meant that the traffic was horrendous and, as usual, there was a slow-down for some unknown reason - probably construction.
I found myself sitting in traffic beside a huge flatbed tractor trailer hauling one massive blade.
You know; the kind of blades that are part of the humongous windmills that are out in the desert areas in Arizona, California and other places.
I've always loved the sight of these silent sentinels.
If you are lucky the massive blades will catch the sunlight just right and they look like twinkling stars when viewed from a very long distance.
I smiled at the irony of the situation I found myself in at that moment in time; caught between the modern world with its trappings of traffic jams & dependence on fossil fuels and the glimmer of a different future - the windmills & renewable energy sources.
I'm a windmill person at heart.
I love them and they make me smile every time.
So years ago, when I first saw these magnificent huge ones I fell instantly in love with the rows upon rows of them in the California desert.
Since then, over 10 years later, you can find them scattered about the U.
S.
in various places, California no longer holds title to the exclusive domain of the giant windmill.
Even more exciting is that smaller versions can be obtained for your own home use! Yes, it's true! Technology has advanced in the last decade and now affords us the opportunity to have our own windmill and it's easier and less costly than one might think! The Old Becoming New...
Windmills and wind power is not a new concept.
In fact, windmills themselves have been around for thousands of years - the earliest recorded date being in the 9th century.
How we interact with wind power is a new concept and with the addition of the newest technology, usage of wind power is sure to evolve even further.

Wind Power and Sustainable Living...
Harnessing the wind and utilizing it for power is compatible with any sustainable living or off-grid venture.
Obviously if one lives in the middle of the city the choices are more limited as to what can be accomplished toward the goal of sustainability.
In rural areas or isolated areas the sky's the limit and many who live in these areas not only want to have off-grid systems - it's a must! Places To Go & Windmills To See...
The good news is that the availability of power systems is now more attainable today than ever before.
One of the most popular resources for sustainable living power systems is located in the Northern Mountains of Arizona.
Mikes Windmill Shop is a valuable resource for all things wind powered, big and small.
