How to Get a Prospective Student Visa in the UK
- 1). Complete an online visa application at the UK Border Agency homepage (see Resources).
- 2). Select the "Apply for a UK visa now" button. Read the overview information under the "New visa application - Before you apply" section, confirm that you've read it and click "Continue." The application security dialog box should open.
- 3). Enter your information in the boxes and click "Next." Provide a reliable email address. Complete the online application by following the prompts and scheduling an appointment to have your biometrics information collected.
- 4). Fill out a money order payable to "The UK Embassy in the United States" for the visa-processing fee. As of 2010, the fee was USD $114.00.
- 5). Print copies of your completed online application, biometrics appointment and confirmation of payment within your UK Border Agency account. If you would like to use a travel agent or courier, select the "return mail" option within your account.
- 6). Visit your closest application support center on your appointment date and have your biometrics data recorded (see Resources).
- 7). Fill a folder with all the necessary supporting documents for your student visa application. Supporting documents include an admission letter from a UK institution, proof of sufficient financial resources to cover both your living and tuition expenses and proof of health insurance coverage in the UK.
- 8). Get a 45-by-35 mm color photograph of yourself taken. The photo must be taken against a plain background and your face must be visible. The photo must be taken within six months of your application.
- 9). Mail your printed application and supporting documents, including your valid passport, via certified mail to your closest UK consulate (see Resources) within two weeks after the collection of your biometrics information. You must include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with some form of tracking.

Wait for your UK student visa to arrive. It should get there within three weeks.
