"varn-varn ke phool khile the, jhalmal kar himbindu jhile the,
halke jhonke hile mile the, lehraata tha paani."
"lehraata the paani! haan, haan, yehee kahaani."

"gaate the khag kal-kal svar se, sahsa ek hans oopar se,
giraa biddh hokar khar shar se, hu-e paksh kee kaani!"
"hu-e paksh kee haani? karuna-bharee kahaani!"

"chaunk unhone use thaaya, nayaa janm saa usne paaya.
itne men aakhetak aaya, lakshy-siddhi kaa maani."
"lakshy-siddhi kaa maani! komal-kathin kahaani."
