Why Hunt From Tree Stands?

1
In my early days of hunting I travelled many a mile scaring up more wildlife than I ever saw.
Sure, I got my game eventually but since I prefer to hunt alone or with only one other hunter sometimes it was the last day of the hunt before I got it.
My change of hunting style came by accident.
One day I went into a gun shop and saw they were selling compound bows.
I purchased the bow and after practicing for awhile I went out hunting in the fall.
I soon realized that I was going to have to get smart if I were to get close enough to my game.
So, while hunting one day I saw a huge maple tree with an area large enough in the crotch for me to sit and watch.
After a while a deer moved slowly into shooting range and after taking careful aim my arrow penetrated the deer.
I had to pick up the blood trail the next morning, but I found my deer and I realized that hunting from a high point would be a new way to hunt.
I purchased an aluminum tree stand and used that for awhile but I found the base to be too small and slippery, so I welded one together from old conduit pipe, put a piece of plywood on it followed by some carpet and I used that stand for many years.
Altogether, I got two elk, and one deer from the stand.
The elk were taken by a 30-06 rifle, and my bow hunting should have been more successful had it not been from some mistakes that I had made, such as having my arrow slip off the rest, or from holding the fully drawn bow so long that I weakened as the deer took longer to cross into the open than I realized.
All in all, I spent many hours in a tree stand enjoying the scenery, the peace and serenity, and sometimes I was successful is obtaining my game.
Elk are the ghost of the forest, and I know that I would never had shot them if were not for the tree stands.
In fact, both were taken in two successive years right on the exact same spot only ten yards from my stand.
Both dropped right there and never moved.
That is why I now operate our whitetail deer and bear hunts from tree stands and we offer hunts on land that is off limits to others.
We clear the lanes, we feed the game, and we take you to your stand early enough to put you in the best place to observe returning game from the open fields.
