How to Stretch a Refoamed Woofer
- 1). Lay the speaker enclosure onto its back so that the speaker is facing upward. Apply gentle pressure on the speaker cone with your fingertips. Push slowly downward on the cone until you meet resistance. Repeat this step 15 to 20 times, gradually increasing the pressure on the cone.
- 2). Connect the speaker wires from your amplifier to the speaker terminals on the speaker enclosure. Insert a test-tone CD into your CD player. Set the volume on your amplifier to about 1/4. Turn on the amplifier and set the CD player to play a frequency sweep track, set to "Repeat." Play the frequency sweep track continually for 15 minutes.
- 3). Reset the volume of your amplifier to 1/2 and repeat the frequency sweep track for 15 more minutes. Your speaker's new surround is now stretched and ready to use. Keep volume levels relatively low for the first few hours that you use the new speaker surround.
