How to Change a CDL in Georgia
- 1). Appear at your nearest Department of Driver Services office. You must appear in person to change your CDL in the state of Georgia. A list of locations is available from the Georgia Department of Driver Services' website (see Resource).
- 2). Bring valid government identification, including your birth certificate or passport and your valid regular driver's license. Present this paperwork and, if your CDL was stolen, a copy of the police report in which you have reported it stolen. Fill out a Lost License Affidavit form at the DDS office, if required.
- 3). Pay the requisite 2010 change fee of $5. The Department of Driver Services may also re-take your picture for your new license. Generally, you will be given a license with the same number as before. The department will only change your license number if your license number is the same as your Social Security number, if your license has been stolen or if the change has been authorized by the Fraud Investigation Unit, which occurs mainly in situations of identity theft.
