Travel Collage

• Make a travel box to store travel journals and pictures collected on various trips and vacations. Design a collage on the exterior of your picture box specific to the travel theme. Look through old magazines and newspapers to find pictures, words and phrases that correlate to traveling. For example, cut out pictures of airplanes, trains, luggage, cameras and landscapes, and phrases such as "On the Go," "Where's the Beach," "Fun in the Sun" and "Vacation Time." Create the collage on the top and sides of the wooden picture box, gluing down the cut-outs. Allow the collage to dry before laminating it with laminating paper to preserve its appearance. Place your travel photos, souvenirs and journals in the box for safe-keeping.
  
  

Carved Keepsake

• Create a wedding keepsake out of your wooden picture box. Use a knife to carve your initials and those of your spouse, important dates such as your anniversary, words that describe your relationship, special quotes that you share or the names of places you have visited together. Brush off excess wood after carving with a clean, dry towel. Leave the box as is for a rustic look or stain the inside of the carvings with a different color wood stain than used on the rest of the box to make them stand out. Place wedding paraphernalia including photos, garters, preserved flowers, cards, the guest book and honeymoon souvenirs in the box.
  
  

Mosaic Centerpiece

• Add color and design to your wooden picture box to craft a functioning centerpiece that you can place on your coffee table to stow remote controls, drink coasters and DVDs. Craft a mosaic on the exterior of the picture box using glass or ceramic tiles, shells or stones, depending on your room decor. Create an abstract design or pattern on the wooden surface or put together a specific picture or scene. Use an acrylic-based adhesive and grout to keep the mosaic in place. You can find various colors of grout and sand that match your color scheme. Put your TV room belongings in the box to reduce clutter.
  
  

Jewelry Box

• Recycle a wooden picture box into a jewelry box. Pick a fabric that you like to cover the exterior of the box for a new look and added style. Sew jewelry-themed objects into the fabric such as metal studs or beads. Glue the fabric onto the exterior of the box. Line the interior of the picture box with velour or velvet to create a soft surface. Measure the width and length of the interior of the box. Cut small pieces of plywood that correlate to the measurements and cover them with velour. Fit the plywood into the box to create different-sized sections to store your earrings, bracelets, necklaces and rings.
