Treatment for Uncomplicated UTIs: When the UTI is not complicated then the low risk UTI can be treated with three day curse of antibiotics without any lab

test. The oral antibiotics gives relief from about 94% of UTI.The standard antibiotic for UTI consists of three day course of sulfamethoxazole, commonly

called TMP-SMX (Bactrim, Cotrim, Septra).One day course of TMP-SMX can be given in mild infections.Quinolones can be given in areas that are resistant to

TMP-SMX but this is not suggested for pregnant women. Nitrofurantoin (Furadantin, Macrodantin) can be given for longer durations say for more than three days

treatment.

Fosfomycin is suggested for pregnant females.

Mostly these medicines give result after a week but if the problem still persists then a urine test is done to identify the organism that is causing the

infection and the medicines are given accordingly.

Increase the intake of fluid: The increased intake of fluid helps to wash out the organisms in the urinary tract that makes the pathogens difficult to stay
