Emergency Storm Shelter For One

1
Do you have a safe spot during severe weather at your home?? A handful of people are fortunate enough to have a storm shelter or basement.
The remainder of us are panic stricken when the weather is at it's worst and we don't have safe refuge.
This doesn't have to be the case any longer.
A super simple solution is at hand.
Few materials are needed to construct a secure haven.
I planned this for 1 adult to have total protection.
Multiple units can be put in place.
You will need 2 - 55 gallon drums or something similar.
Metal or plastic is acceptable.
A drill and shovel along with 2 hinges and a slide latch is all that is needed.
Dig a hole deep enough for one barrel on top of another.
Dig the hole wide enough that the barrels can be placed at an angle maybe 30 degrees sort of on their side.
Place the first barrel, cover with dirt and pack tightly.
Take the remaining barrel and cut the bottom off leaving an open cuff.
Place it on top of the first barrel and pack it into the ground.
Use hinges to close the lid, and a slide latch on the inside to keep the lid shut during storms.
This is so simple I am still kicking myself for not thinking of this 20 years ago!! It would be impossible to count the numerous times I and many others have sweat bullets over severe storm conditions.
Never again.
Now I run outside and slip down into my cozy little barrel with my little girls and we wait the severe weather out.
The longest time we have been inside was 48 minutes.
We sing songs and clap our hands and celebrate our good fortune of having the barrels till the storm subsides.
I want to add an air spout of sorts soon.
I am a woman in my early 30's who takes the bull by the horns.
It took me 4 days to complete my project.
The digging took 2 and 1/2 days.
Good workout though.
Men should be able to make something twice as nice.
Maybe!
