How to Winterize My Lance Truck Camper

2
    • 1). Clean out all food and edible materials from shelves, the refrigerator, and other places in the camper. Don't forget about things like toothpaste and mouthwash, which may be attractive to pests. Wipe down all surfaces to remove food debris and vacuum the interior of the camper.

    • 2). Remove the propane tanks from the camper and place a cover over the gas valves.

    • 3). Drain the water lines, in preparation for replacing water with non-toxic antifreeze. First open the water heater drain, typically located on the bottom of the unit. When the water is drained, replace the plug. Attach a blowout hose to the end of your city water pipe, and use an air compressor to blow the water from each of the water lines. Open your water valves in the shower, sink and refrigerator one at a time to drain them, making sure to open both hot and cold valves.

    • 4). Replace the water in the lines with non-toxic antifreeze, to keep your pipes from freezing. You can purchase the pink-colored antifreeze at most RV and camping supply stores. Lance truck campers have an optional winterizing bypass line so you won't have to fill your water tank with antifreeze. Use the bypass line to pull liquid from your bottle of antifreeze through the water pump and into the RV pipes. When your faucets have pink liquid coming out of them, you have enough antifreeze in the pipes.

    • 5). Use the Lance's camper jacks to place the truck camper in the location it will sit for the winter. Be sure the jacks are properly attached.

    • 6). Fill in any holes in the bottom of the camper with putty or duct tape to prevent rodents access. Mice can enter a room through a nickel or even a dime-size hole, so be thorough.

    • 7). Set out several ant traps in each corner of the camper to prevent insect infestation.

    • 8). Place a moisture-preventing unit like Dri-Z-Air in the camper, to prevent excess moisture from ruining upholstery and interior surfaces.

    • 9). Cover the camper with a lightweight material to prevent sun and rain damage. If you are storing your camper under a covered area you could skip this step, as covers tend to hold moisture.
