Two Young Teachers Open an Island Bed and Breakfast Getaway

3
James and Katie were newlyweds who taught at a private New England preparatory school during the school year, and like all school kids across the nation, they had the summer months off. They had just gotten married that summer and were preparing for the school year ahead of them. They had met each other while they were working at the school, and they had spent the previous two summers working there. They had taken a couple of small vacations that kept them from going insane from being trapped in the school year-round. On the winter holidays and vacations they would go to a family member's house or vacation and take another much needed break from the school.

That year, James received notice that a great uncle had passed away and that he was included in the man's will. James barely knew this uncle, but felt it was his obligation and duty to attend the funeral, especially since he had received something from the old man. When he attended the will he learned that he had inherited a small island in the Pacific Northwest. The island also had a small bridge to the mainland and it came with a large house and two additional small guest houses. James had been there a couple of times as a boy and remembered it fondly.

The next vacation, he and Katie went to check out the property and see what they were going to do with it. They loved it too much to put it on the real estate market, and it was a gift and James would have felt badly about doing that with such a generous gift. When they were eating dinner one night, Katie suggested that they convert it into a business and make the house and small guest houses into an inn. Everything had state of the art appliances, hot water, electricity, and most importantly, an amazing view and landscape. James agreed it was a wonderful idea and they both informed the school that they would be resigning.

That next summer they moved all of their belongings across country and started work on their new business. Two things that the place was missing were satellite television and broadband internet. They were the only customers out that far, and there was no way that the cable company would extend it's service out to them. They turned to satellite internet which had much better options anyway, and they could even get broadband satellite internet on the island. It was great for them because it gave the place all the amenities to make it even more appealing to customers.

They soon had the entire place wired with satellite television and broadband internet. Each cabin had two televisions with satellite access and as well as in the main building. James installed a router so that broadband wireless was available almost anywhere on the island, and the customers could even take advantage of the beautiful summer days and use their laptops outside. The first year was a huge success, and they gradually added more amenities such as canoes, kayaks, and sailboats, and they were even starting plans for a restaurant. The Inn became a popular tourist destination and James and Katie were happy with their career change.
