Checklists for USA Travel Visas
- Visitors who wish to obtain a USA travel visa must have an international passport that is valid for at least six months longer than they plan to stay in the United States. The passport must have accurate and current biographical information.
- The visa applicant first has to pay an appointment fee at a designated local bank. The exact amount of the appointment fee can be found by going to the U.S. Embassy website for that particular country. After paying the fee, the applicant can go to the United States Consulate website to fill out an online non-immigrant visa application form. After filling out this form, the applicant will have to print out a bar-coded confirmation page that will serve as proof of application and will contain information such as date and time of interview.
- Applicants for U.S. visas are required to submit two passport photos that must meet strict guidelines. For instance, the photos must measure 5cm by 5cm and must be taken against a white background within the six months prior to the visa application. The applicant's ears must not be covered by hair, and dark glasses or hats cannot be worn.
- Visa applicants must demonstrate that they have a genuine reason for coming to the United States by providing authentic documents to back up their claims. For example, If the visa applicant is applying for a business visa, he must show evidence of an ongoing relationship with a U.S. employer, provide a letter showing the purpose of the trip, how long he plans to stay in the United States and personal bank statements or letters from the U.S. employer showing their intent to cover travel costs. When the appointment date comes up, the visa applicant has to go to the embassy with her passport, confirmation letter, passport photos and other documentation as required. An embassy official will review the documents and ask some questions to determine whether or not to grant the visa.
