School Daze

When former child actor Jackie Kirk (Sarah Stouffer) lands on Bloomington’s (Indiana) college campus, the student body has a lot of trouble dealing with the celebrity status of their newest class member. While the other students constantly make snide asides about Jackie’s sci-fi cult show, and even her study group mates resenting her fame and fortune, Jackie finds it hard to fit in.

While she really just wants to be a “regular” college student, forces collide to make sure Jackie’s life is anything but regular.

The Outsiders

Enter abnormal psychology professor Catherine Stark (Allison McAtee), a talk, slim, gorgeous blonde, with a reputation as a “vampire lesbian”, who catches Jackie’s eye. Catherine, an on-campus school Lothario and the former star end up in bed after a campus mixer and begin an affair.

This coming of age story with a few interesting new twists, offers a sexy and playful storyline and somewhat complex characters. Jackie is torn between her past, present and future while Catherine’s past haunts her and her feelings for Jackie seem to overwhelm her.

Hey, Porcupine

The ups and downs of their lesbian affair intrigue and trouble both Jackie and Catherine, known to seduce, use and lose her female students. And, when Jackie gets a call from her agent to return to Hollywood, the true feelings of both women are revealed.

Beam Me Up, Tyler

My Rating: 3-1/2 stars.

The acting is good and Jackie’s late teenage angst rings vividly true. Both Stouffer and McAtee make attractive characters with a quirky chemistry that breathes a bit of the offbeat into what could be just another ordinary lesbian coming-of-age movie.
