Game of Thrones - The Latest Fantasy Sensation

1
"It mostly started at the beginning of the millennium with the film adaptations of the Harry Potter and the Lord of the rings. 14 years on and the popularity of fantasy novels is stronger than ever. "

The literature books lovers' world can majorly be divided into two; fiction books and non-fiction books.

There also is a third category which is the overlapping area between the lovers' of the two genres.

Now within the genre of fiction, a new sub-genre has emerged as a game changer and that genre is; fantasy or (in today's term) young-adult books.

Harry Potter, Twilight, The hunger Games or even the Divergent series fall into this category.

Interestingly enough, you can very well notice, that they have all been series with multiple volumes and not individual books.
Whether they are all literary gems or not can be a matter of dispute but what cannot be disputed is the fact that these so-called fantasy books have been somewhat instrumental in instilling reading habits into non-readers.

The latest craze of this growing genre, which is catching up fast amongst everyone, is the 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series (or the game of thrones books as it is more popularly known) by george r.r. martin books.

Martin started writing the 1st volume of the series, 'A Game of Thrones', way back in 1991.

It was then released in 1996 with favourable critique.

Originally intended to be a trilogy, Martin later extended the series to seven volumes, the fifth of which, 'A Dance with Dragons' was released in 2011.

But the series gained huge popularity after HBO decided to adapt it for TV series.
All we can say is that the US television company HBO can recognise a good deal when it sees it.

Set in the mythical lands of Westeros And Essos, interweaving several plot lines, the books have become famous for being hugely unpredictable (especially the part where good is supposed to prevail over evil and the opposite happens).
But the books also have a cynical heart, a brutal take on human nature and relative morality, not to mention the effortless grandiose storytelling and a dramatic twist or a cliff-hanger at the end of almost every chapter.

A plot like this is built for success but the actual numbers are still staggering.

When the fifth and the longest novel in the series were released in 2011 after six years of wait, it sold more copies on its first day than other fiction books published that year.

Martin's convoluted mythology and corrupted world have inspired a devoted following across the globe and we hope it'll do so in years to come.
