Easy Green Living II

1
Easy Green Living is the idea of living green without too much effort.
Just subtle changes can make a big difference for the planet and us.
I continue to try and find ways to live a little greener and pass these ideas on to you.
Water Water is our most precise resource.
The main reason is, we can't live without it.
With that being said, we should try to conserve this life giving liquid.
One way that I have been saving h2o is by turning the water off when I brush my teeth.
This doesn't mean that I don't use water, of course not.
I only have the water on when I need it, other than that it's turned off.
I don't know how much this saves but, over a lifetime I'm sure it will help immensely.
Teach your kids this, remember they will be here much longer than we will.
Another way to conserve is to take shorter showers or shower with your better half.
Their are benefits to both of these ideas.
You will figure that out on your own, I'm sure.
Find out how much you actually need to water your lawn.
Most cities have this info available or you can look it up online.
Another option is waterless landscaping.
This is using materials and products that use little or no water.
Remember to turn your auto sprinklers off when it rains (I have a hard time with this one) and most of the time you can leave them off for a couple days after the storm has passed.
Wash bigger loads of laundry.
A friend told me once " the longer you put off washing your clothes, the less you have to do it".
He is a wise man.
Recycle I know you have heard this since the second grade picnic but, do you actually do it? Recycling has come a long way over the years.
Now it is easy to do.
There are companies that will come and pick it up for a small fee.
Most towns now have recycling centers that you can drop off your goods.
It is easy to do now days, all we have to do is do it.
Eat local Think about how far the food you buy in the major chain stores have to travel to get to the shelves where you live.
Farmers markets are a great place to shop, not only are you getting good food but, your saving fuel.
Most food that is sold at a farmers market is cultivated by hand, not by a machine using fuel.
Also, the product doesn't travel as far to get to the store.
Most of the people that sell at a farmers market avoid pesticides and petroleum based fertilizers, making it better for you and the earth.
Grow your own, yes this is possible.
There is a vast amount of knowledge on the net and in the library on gardening.
For those that live in apartments or condo's, I have seen these community farms were you can rent a little piece of land to grow what you want.
Also there will be other people or farmers at these places that would be more than willing to give you advice, just remember to not overstep your bounds.
Remember its up to us to keep the planet clean.
