How to Use NetZero DSL With DD-WRT
- 1). Connect your computer to the DSL modem directly using an Ethernet cable. Check to make sure that the connection is working, then launch a Web browser and navigate to the DSL modem's Web-based configuration page by typing its IP address into the browser's address bar. Typically, your modem's IP address will be 192.168.0.1, but may vary among networks.
- 2). Log in using the administrator account and password. Change the device's Local Area Network (LAN) IP address to 192.168.100.1 and its subnet mask to 255.255.0.0 so that the modem will not conflict with the router. Turn off the DHCP service and change the modem's mode to bridged. Since not all modems firmwares are alike, you will have to find the location for these settings. Typically, they are listed under "Advanced" or "Network" menu options.
- 3). Unplug the power cord and Ethernet cable from the modem. Connect the loose end of the Ethernet cable to your router running the DD-WRT firmware and navigate to the device's Web-based configuration page. This will be at the same address you used when installing the DD-WRT firmware.
- 4). Log in to your router using the administrator account. Click the "Setup" tab, then "basic Setup" and change the connection type to "PPPoE" using the drop-down box. Enter the network name and password for your NetZero DSL service. Click the "Save" button, then power down the router.
- 5). Connect the DSL modem to the DD-WRT router's Wide Area Network (WAN) port using the Ethernet cable. Plug in the modem first and allow it to sync with the DSL service (when the green LEDs flash to confirm an Internet connection). Plug in your router running DD-WRT.
