Dog Psychology - Confronting a Belief System
It is no accident why so much conflict exists between dogs and humans.
Why our dogs are turning on and rejecting a belief system that invalidates dominance while promoting a path based on human thoughts, feelings and emotions.
Nature however exposes the influence of dominance through associated behaviors.
These associated behaviors are authoritative and possessive states of mind expressed by the dog during daily interactions and situations.
The frequency and intensity of these authoritative behaviors increase as more power is gained within the context of the relationship.
Resolving this core issue comes from exposing, cornering and shifting power.
As power gets shifted and a overall conditional follower state of mind begins to take hold all the unwanted associated behaviors begin to diminish as well.
The statement that you can't fix a problem until you see it has never be more true when it comes to resolving this core issue.
Many dog owners want to immediately connect with their dogs at an emotional level without considering nature, authority and how dogs might be different within this context.
That emotion without restraint is perceived as weakness within the context of nature and gives away power.
It is part of a dog's nature and path to take it and then seek even more.
Again nature doesn't negotiate or conform to human thinking.
It will however allow us to see what we want to see through conditioning and response if our decision making and thinking is already influenced based on emotion.
Objective reasoning and the ability to go deeper than what is seen from the surface is contaminated from this emotional way of thinking.
Words such as "positive reward based" are used to promote and appeal to a group already focused on how a dog can meet their human needs and make their life more fulfilling.
No consideration is given beyond this human self view of the relationship.
It directs the owner's psychological path further towards human thinking and emotion and away from nature.
Followers of this system of training continue to ignore the obvious contradictions which often include inconsistent results and continuing unresolved behavior issues.
This emotionally based system of training has evolved into a type of belief system based on emotions and feelings rather than objectivity, reasoning and insight.
Once all the patterns, influences, associations and links are revealed the hard and difficult truth regarding dominance and power becomes clear.
The influence of dominance and power are very real in nature and the human world based on a shared connection between dogs and humans.
Its influence on behavior is profound.
To fully comprehend and understand its impact within the context of associated behaviors and our overall influence on resolving this issue we need to go deeper than what is seen from the surface as it links to conditioning and response.
Many years ago some glaring contradictions were exposed within the context of the dog and human dynamic that sent me on a journey to find answers.
Questions such as why some owners succeeded while others failed while following the identical training system?.
Was it a coincidence that owners who formed a higher emotional connection with their dog seemed to have the worse behavior issues.
That certain behavior issues increased in frequency and intensity as time progressed.
Why some owners didn't ever need formal training or intervention from a professional.
I knew that dominance and power were deceiving and allusive based on what was seen on the surface.
That how a owner interacted with their dog during certain interactions exposed this issue.
That where the owner's mind went most often within the context of the relationship and nature determined the overall path of the dog's mind also.
That certain personality types seemed to have an easier time with dogs than others.
The answers could not be found from trusting what could be seen from the surface.
I knew some other aspect of the dog and human dynamic existed which went beyond the physical.
That the physical and psychological were directly connected.
That dogs were in tune to this psychological connection through nature.
That dogs shared this unique and special connection with us through nature.
That the true standard for success was connected and associated with the diminishment of unwanted behaviors.
That when associated authoritative behaviors remained than the issue of dominance and power also remained unresolved.
That a disconnect often existed between conditioning, response and diminishment of these associated behaviors.
That conditioning, separate and apart from nature, authority and the psychological aspect of the dog and human dynamic, would not resolve this issue.
That when power did shift it was happening more by natural psychological alignment, a domino effect, based on the type of intervention occurring, than design.
That the psychological dynamics which resolved this issue could be broken apart based on patterns, associations and links between dog and owner.
That context wasn't just something but everything when it comes to understanding behavior.
For those who approach the dog and human relationship with thoughts, feelings and emotions and a self view it can contaminate objectivity with seeing beyond the surface.
That it is human nature to adopt methods which conform to how we already think and feel.
The psychological aspect and connection is misunderstood because it cannot be seen clearly by the human eye.
Its influence, associations and links, within the context of behavior, are revealed through patterns associated to dog and human interaction and from careful study of behavior within the context of this direct relationship.
It took me over 15 years with analysing hundreds of dog cases to come to some very profound conclusions regarding the issue of dominance and power.
That those behavior issues that conditioning and surface training failed to resolve could be resolved once the psychological was properly aligned.
That the psychological aspect of the dog and human dynamic is what was really creating meaningful and lasting change.
That the physical is merely a manifestation of the psychological.
The period at the end of a sentence already spoke via the shared psychological connection.
That what really influences, directs and pulls a dog's mind towards what the owner wants is through this power shifting process.
During this audit of the dog and human dynamic it became clear why so many follow this emotional path.
Why so many attempt to invalidate the influence of dominance and power.
Why so many fail to see anything beyond the surface.
That how we think based on what we want and how we feel contaminates everything and aligns our minds towards a path of conflict.
The sad reality is that the majority of owners will accept half truth and follow a belief system if they are already down on one knee within their mind.
That unconditional human love is often a pathway towards destruction for many dogs.
That when it comes to nature you might be on the outside looking in without even knowing it.
