How to Deter Geese From Your Lawn
- 1). Do not provide food for the geese. While it can be hard to think of stale bread going to waste, tossing crumbs out for animals in your yard or property can encourage the geese to remain in the area looking for even more food sources. Providing food is a welcome call to all nearby geese to come and feed. This leads to aggressive and imposing behavior as they become more comfortable with humans.
- 2). Cut shrubs back to keep areas--especially around any bodies of water--from being overgrown. Providing overgrowth will make the perfect environment for geese to build nests and begin to call your lawn their own. Keep foliage clean and well-monitored. If possible, install high fencing around your yard and shrubs to deter geese.
- 3). Place bird scare-eye balloons or colorful plastic flags in areas around water and shrubs where geese like to visit. Bird-scare balloons are colorful balloons with images printed on the side that remind geese of large predator birds. Hang in strategic locations around your yard.
- 4). Set off a loud noise when geese flock to your lawn. Loud noises such as alarms, whistles or even firecrackers will keep geese from feeling comfortable on your property. Many gardening supply stores sell electronic gadgets that emit electronic sirens that can easily scare off a goose.
- 5). Pour grape extract goose deterrent around any bodies of water, surrounding shrubs or any other locations where geese like to frequent. Reapply the deterrent after major rains and periodically throughout the year.
