XDR PreAmp

• The main difference between the Mackie 1202 VLZ and the 1202 VLZ Pro is the XDR preamplifier that is factory standard on the VLZ Pro. The XDR, or Extended Dynamic Range, mic preamp is Mackie's quarter-million dollar research and development tool to improve the sound quality in recording from a multitude of setups. While cables and microphone distances can hinder the quality of a recording greatly, the XDR mic preamplifiers deliver peak performance no matter the set up. Mackie guarantees that the XDR technology found in the newer 1202 VLZ Pro mixer ensures a quality microphone preamp that is resistant to radio frequency interference, protective of external damage during recording, and gives equal performance at any gain level and connecting equipment.
  
  

Interface

• There are a few differences between the Mackie 1202 VLZ and VLZ Pro interfaces, but the differences are so small they are probably not a determining factor over which one is superior. The top row of Auxiliary knobs on the regular VLZ mixing console are all red, while the VLZ Pro model features black auxiliary knobs in this area. The headphone jack has a white square outlining this feature on the VLZ Pro model and the regular VLZ mixing device does not. The only difference between the VLZ and the VLZ Pro rear interfaces is the copyright wording on the bottom right.
  
  

Manufacture

• The Mackie 1202 VLZ Pro mixing console evolved from the regular 1202 VLZ mixing board. Mackie discontinued production of the 1202 VLZ in 1999 while continuing to produce the 1202 VLZ Pro until the present day.
  
  

Price

• When it was first released to the consumer market, the manufacturer's suggested retail price for the 1202 VLZ was about $270. The VLZ Pro suggested retail price was around $350. While the difference in price may be obvious to some buyer's, the featured differences may be worth the money.
