How to Spend One Day in Fort Collins, Colorado
- 1). Beer buffs should start the day early at New Belgium Brewery. Tours, which are limited to 20 people each, fill up quickly--particularly on Saturdays and during in the summer months--so getting to the brewery when it opens to sign up for a tour is key. Tours are offered Tuesday through Friday, every half-hour from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. On Saturdays, tours are offered every 30 minutes between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
- 2). After grabbing a brew (or two) at New Belgium Brewery, make your way down to Old Town. Here you will find shops, restaurants, art galleries and a great opportunity for people-watching. Many restaurants have outdoor seating during the summer months, making Old Town a great location to sit in the sun and relax.
- 3). Fort Collins is home to Colorado State University. The well-manicured grounds of the college make for a nice afternoon stroll. Be sure to check out CSU's calendar to see if there are any music, theater or dance events occurring on campus during your visit to the city.
- 4). If you're looking for a more active vacation, take advantage of the outdoor activities available within and around the city of Fort Collins. The city is very bike-friendly, so consider bringing along a road bike to cruise around town. Just outside Fort Collins is the Cache la Poudre River, which is a highly popular location for rafting trips during the summer. There are several outfitters located on the northern edge of town. If getting wet isn't your thing, consider taking one of the many day hikes in the Cache la Poudre Valley. Hikes range in length from short loop trails to more intense several-mile forays into the woods.
- 5). After enjoying all the city has to offer, a great place to end your day in Fort Collins is at Cafe Vino. A coffee shop by day and a wine bar by night, this small restaurant also offers tapas and delicious desserts--a perfect way to end a long day touring the city.
