  West Africa is known for its beautiful beaches that attract tourists from around the world. Lome, Togo, and the surrounding area has several beaches south of the city and eastward along the coast. Togo lies between the nations of Ghana and Benin and has only 35 miles of coastline on the Atlantic. However, the palm trees and crystal blue waters along the short coastline of this West African nation may seem like a familiar sight if you have ever visited Southern California or Florida.
  
  

Lome Beach

• Lome's climate is perfect for spending a day at the beach because its location in the tropics provides a steady heat throughout the year that's offset by the cool ocean breeze. The city does experience two rainy seasons because of its proximity to the equator: from April to July and September through November.
  
  Along the beaches, groups of fishermen dragging in nets are a common sight as are the variety of fishing vessels out at sea. Many vendors selling snacks, drinks and souvenirs along the seaside. Visitors should also take care at Lome beach because of the dangerous undertow and some sections of unstable seabed.
  
  

Robinson-Plage Beach

• Robinson-Plage beach is just east of Lome. A favorite spot of the locals, the seafloor here is safe and while the waves are still strong, they are the weakest found along the coast of Togo. Because of its proximity to the Port of Lome, vessels can be seen entering and leaving the waters nearby. None stray too close to the shoreline though, as the waters at this beach are much shallower, making it quite safe for visitors.
  
  

Aneho Beach

• The historic town of Aneho is near the eastern border of Togo and is the former capital of the country. Its beaches feature numerous rocky outcroppings and some of the strongest waves found in the country. The combination of these two can be a dangerous experience for visitors who are unaware.
  
  The coastline here is dotted with dilapidated colonial-era houses overrun by the flora. This makes for a scenic view of the nation's history that draws visitors to the past when the coast would have been dominated by French ships, now replaced by local fishing boats.
