How to Install a Winch in a Pickup Truck
- 1). Install the Fairlead to the Fairlead bracket with the 7/16 hex socket head bolts, lock washers and nuts. Tighten with Allen key.
- 2). Feed the winch's wire rope through the Fairlead and install the hook on the end with the nuts and bolts provided.
- 3). Open the hood of the truck and remove the screws along the top of the bumper that secures the bumper cap, the cable release for the hood and the grill stops.
- 4). Disconnect the plastic fasteners that attach the air deflector flap to the bottom of the bumper.
- 5). Disconnect the fog light wires if your bumper is equipped with them.
- 6). Remove the four nuts which secure the bumper to the frame of the vehicle. Remove the bumper from the vehicle.
- 7). Use the utility knife to trim the bumper grill back 1 3/4 inches along the bottom edge.
- 8). Lift the winch mount into position, with the help of a friend, so that the bolt holes line up with the bottom of the vehicle's frame. Screw the four mount bolts into place securing the mounting plate. Do not fully tighten.
- 9). Center the winch mount between the frame rails by inserting the necessary amount of washers to shim between the frame and mount.

Push a 5/8-inch bolt through the winch mount and install the lock nut. Tighten all of the bolts which secure the mounting plate to the frame. - 11
Run the winch's black and red wire to the vehicle's battery and attach to the terminals, paying attention to the correct polarity. Fasten the wires to the body of the truck so they don't interfere with the engine. - 12
Attach the control pack bracket to the top of the winch mount with the nuts and bolts provided. Install the winch's control pack to the control pack bracket. Run the wires to the winch and connect to the terminals that are marked for these wires.
