How to Upgrade the Hardware on a Laptop
- 1). Power off your laptop computer and remove the AC power cord. Close the display screen and turn the unit upside down.
- 2). Locate the hard drive compartment and memory compartment on the bottom of the laptop. Generally, the memory compartment is the second-largest compartment on the bottom of a laptop, and the hard drive compartment is the largest. Sometimes, the hard drive of a laptop is removed from the side of the computer. Consult your user guide if you have problems locating the compartments.
- 3). Remove the captive screws holdinh the compartment covers in place and lift the compartment covers up.
- 4). Slide the hard drive out of its compartment and slide a new one in its place. Replace the compartment cover and screw.
- 5). Pry the tabs on either side of the rectangular memory module outward and the module will pop slightly out of the compartment at a 45-degree angle. Remove it.
- 6). Fit a new memory module in its place and press down gently until the tabs lock in place. Replace the compartment cover and screws.
