Deep Well Jet Pump Installation
- Before installing any pump, clear the well of all grit, sand or dirt, and ensure that the water is clear.
Install a tail pipe to the bottom of the pump if necessary. This pipe extends into the water at the bottom of the well. If the jet pump is submersible the pump itself rests in the water at the bottom of the well. Connect the well to the proper electrical service. The wire will extend from the surface to the pump when it is placed at the bottom of the well. - Connect the water pipe to the top of the pump. This first section of pipe is used to lower the pump into the well until the top of the pipe is at ground level of the well. Fill the pipe with water. The water is required for priming the pump before operation.
Attach the next section of pipe to the initial pipe. Lower the assembly into the well until the top of the newly installed pipe is again at ground level. The pipe is again filled with water. Repeat this process of attaching pipe, lowering the assembly and filling with water until the pump's proper operating depth is reached.
Holding the pipe and pump in place and lowering it into the well requires special tools. Use a scaffolding or derrick above the well hole and a winch to lower the pump and pipe. - Once the pump is in place seal the well with a well seal. This device allows the water to be pumped from the well without allowing foreign materials into the well. Start the pump and verify that everything is working.
