Inadequate Sign Boards and Traffic Congestion Multiply Gurgaon Traffic Problems

1
Gurgaon is the second name to traffic problems with drivers crazily honking on roads, vehicles lurking bumper to bumper, vrooming past fast flouting rules on unmanned traffic posts, and going wrong ways in the absence of adequate traffic signboards. This is just one of the routine scenarios on Gurgaon roads and entry/exit points where trails of vehicles including private vehicles, trucks, call center cabs and more can be seen during peak traffic hours (morning 8-11am and evening 6-9pm).

The city has a mismanaged traffic system from the courtesies of the poor administration, lack of public cooperation on roads, lack of adequate action plan against the problem and those who flout traffic rules, shortage of traffic control manpower (most of the traffic points remain unmanned and the control is at the helm of the public), inadequate traffic sign boards following which drivers and the passersby are mislead to different directions adding to the plight, poor drainage system often playing foul during rains, and the ongoing road/water works of the PWD among other reasons.

Traffic congestion in Gurgaon is one of the worst conditions that Gurgaonites and the travelers have to face during peak office hours and even off-peak hours due to lack of proper and functional streetlights, electricity problems, poorly equipped system to handle vehicle accidents and quickly clear road blockages, encroachment on roads, lack of zebra crossings and their no use by the passersby during crossovers, narrow roads at merging points, ongoing PWD works for water/electricity/roads etc., shortage of traffic personnel, high volume of vehicles, lack of local transport vehicles, and more. The list of reasons of "Why" goes on but the list of corrective measures and practices stands blank.

Let alone traffic congestion, inadequate traffic sign boards also lead people to wrong places, making them liable to traffic penalties, aggregating to vehicle accumulation on busy roads, and further worsening the traffic conditions in the city. One of the Delhiites who has been recently wrongly penalized by the Gurgaon traffic police for entering into a "NO ENTRY ZONE" where a "NO U TURN" sign board was put up complain coarsely that they should have put up the correct traffic sign board there on the place.

He said that he was moving towards the Micromax building from the highway crossing the subway underneath where he found out the "NO U TURN" sign board. Since it was not a U-turn, he kept moving towards the building where he was stopped by the Gurgaon traffic personnel and penalized for entering into "NO ENTRY ZONE". The driver said that he picked up a futile argument with them over fining for "NO ENTRY ZONE" whereas the sign board tells "NO U TURN" and that he wasn't going the U-turn also.

This clearly explains the plight of thousands of people coming to the city from Delhi, Jaipur, Faridabad and other adjoining areas who eventually become victims of traffic penalties due to the wrong traffic sign boards or most probably in their absence. What irks most of the people that they are not even heard by the traffic police personnel who always are in the hurry of solving the matter from "under the table".

Taking notice of the city people and the travelers, The Gurgaon Municipal Corporation in the cooperation of Gurgaon Renewal Mission authorities and the police department has issued a public advisory that states (post-investigation of roads) the implantation of traffic sign boards and reflectors on Basai Road, Old Railway Road, Pataudi Road, New Railway Road, Mata Masani Road, and MG Road; and installation of curve stones on busy roads instead of Jersey Barriers; and the ASAP completion of the drainage work between the Basai and Pataudi roads with the installation of interlocking tiles on the both sides.

Given that the action plan of the Gurgaon mayor goes into the action and implementation, the ever-growing traffic problems including Traffic Congestion in Gurgaon will surely be resolved and the situation will be under control, making it easy for people to travel to and fro.
