Sales Tax Instructions
- 1). Learn the sales tax percentage for your ZIP code location. For this example, assumes the sales tax is six percent.
- 2). Find the retail price (selling price before tax) for the item you're purchasing. Assume the price is five dollars for this example.
- 3). Move the decimal point for the sales tax number two places to the left (.06 for this example).
- 4). Multiply the number from Step 3 (.06 in this example) by the retail price ($5.00). 5.00 x .06 = .30.
- 5). Add the retail price ($5.00) plus the number from Step 4 (.30). The total (5.00 + .30 = 5.30) is the price you pay.
