Fender Steel King Amplifier Specs
- The Fender Steel King amplifier is a 200-watt guitar amp designed by Fender specifically for pedal steel guitar. This amp features a unique preamp sound that was made specifically for clean and clear tone. The amp has a built-in limiter to prevent distortion when playing aggressively and also comes with Fender's classic spring-reverb effect. The speakers inside the amp are made specifically by Fender to replicate the speakers used in amps in the 1960s. Unfortunately, the Steel King is now discontinued.
- The Fender Steel King amp is a solid-state amp, meaning that it produces sound with transistors as opposed to the "classic" tube amps. It is built with one input jack, so only a single instrument can be plugged in at a time. There is a single 15-inch Custom Eminence Cast Frame speaker inside, which was chosen by Fender to best emulate the classic 1960s guitar tone. There is also a three-button foot switch for quickly selecting a channel to play from.
- The Steel King amp comes with Fender's classic spring-reverb effect built in, along with an adjustable three-band equalizer. The settings on the equalizer are bass, mids, and treble, with the mids frequency being adjustable. There is also a limiter effect which prevents clipping, a form of distortion, when the instrument is played too loudly. The limiter cannot be adjusted; it can be only turned on and off.
- The Fender Steel King is constructed in a way similar to other Fender amps. It's internal speaker is a "Cast Frame Speaker" with an aluminum center cap. The amp weights 66 pounds, with dimensions measuring 21-inches tall, 20-inches wide with a silver grille cloth over the front, and 12.5 inches in depth. The casing of the amp is made of black vinyl. There is a cover included with the amp.
