Getting Down And Dirty! Sometimes in the course of showing smokers the right approach to their stopping smoking-- and the quite wrong approach to their trying to stop-- it becomes quite necessary to get down and dirty in as modest a way as possible: Let Me Draw A Picture! Let me draw a picture of a student in a college setting- who is new to his surroundings.

The guy says to wait right there, and he disappears- but soon returns with a cluster of large green grapes.
He holds them out to this fellow as if to say, "Here's what you need.
" Stretching Out Agony! Now you tell me: Are grapes really appropriate? If you don't mind, I'll answer that: "That" to me is what so many programs present to the smoker in need of help.
Yet, they neither do for you what you need to do for yourself-- like a grownup soul-- or they try to convince you to do something, which not only does not resolve your smoking but stretches out the agony of your wish to stop now.
The New Phony Product! In this second category I put the fake cigarettes, which have become the vogue all around.
When you see cigarette companies jumping on the bandwagon: Know for certain they smell big profits and an indefinite use of this brand new phony product.
Life Fails From Poor Judgment! My role in writing this is not just for you to think of what I'm advocating-- but to get you to use judgment before someone gives you a bunch of juicy grapes, when you in fact are on the march to the restroom.

When people sell products which do not help you solve the one problem you have, but just prolong it under the guise you're better off with it than without it-you should ask yourself, 'Am I using my judgment here or being conned into a glamorous situation, which will never take me where I must go? Grapes Aren't Appropriate! Grapes are terrific fruit in certain instances, but grapes can't do what you need now.
Beware of maintenance pros who offer you grapes-expect you to thank them for them and proceed to eat them in spite of your need to do exactly the opposite.
