Formula After Breast Milk

6
Where I grew up, it was taken for granted that when a baby was born, he or she was going to be breast-fed.
Therefore, no one asked a mother, "are you going to breast feed?" However, it can be very disheartening for a mom who grew up with this teaching and due to a medical reason, or some other reasons, will not be able to breast nourish (feed) her child.
With this been the case, she may decide to substitute her milk with a baby formula.
Since there are more that one formula on the market today, knowing a bit about the formats that are available will help you in deciding which one or ones to use.
Formula Formats Baby formulas are available in three formats and they are powdered, liquid and pre-prepared.
Powder This format requires adding water to scoops of powder and it is the most economical of the three.
Nevertheless, depending on the brand's maker and the size of the can, it is priced accordingly.
Therefore, if your first choice is to use the powered formula, let me recommend that you purchase a medium to small can on your first purchase, just in case your baby do not react too positively to it.
I know it can be a bit tempting, especially for an excited dad, to buy the largest tin on the shelf, but test it out first, before going for the largest one.
Additionally, any unused mixed formula should be discarded after one hour and an opened tin should not be used after one month.
Liquid With this liquid concentrated substance, you simply add boiled but warm water to it and the remainder of the formula must be refrigerated, and never frozen.
Pre-prepared As you would have already suspected, this pre-prepared baby's food comes ready to "eat".
With this advantage, comes a cost, and that is, it is usually more expensive than the others, but, you may still be able to fit it into your budget if this is your first choice and your child has responded really well to it.
As concerning the longevity of it, whenever you open a pre-prepared can, the remainder of the food must be refrigerated and if it is still in the fridge after 48 hours it must be thrown away.
Since both the liquid and the pre-prepared formats are in a liquid form, in distinguishing between them, simply check the labeling for concentrated and ready-to-eat (pre-prepared).
Also, it is a good idea to inform those who will be handling the baby's food (baby sitter) as to which one you are using.
