Pet Bites - PTSD With a Purr

2
If you have not had the pleasure to be introduced to a pet, let me do it now.
I have two whose names are Ophelio and Baby who wipe PTSD tears from my brow.
One or the other comes to knit just when the night seems to bring past fright.
Instinctively these little warriors chase away the Blues and make it all just right! They are the patrollers of the night catching silent prey.
These mice they kill are ghosts that leave when we pray.
It is like the process of osmosis that courage comes from their caress.
The fear that is always near is fought so mightily with the purr that makes us rest.
Their loyal behavior brings such gratefulness to my life.
It is so welcome when we no longer have either a husband or a wife.
That just caught mouse or vole put at the front step shows they care.
After all, they are displaying the victorious booty from the battle to share! Ophelio was a homeless stray who lived on his own for 3 winters outside.
He had been abandoned and his ribs were bare when he was welcomed to live inside.
It was so strange when we took him to the Veterinarian to make him all right.
He lay still when the doctor examined him and those 4 shots did not bring fright! It was as if he knew this was for his own good.
He trusted what was happening while I was near, as he should.
This mutual presence has a spiritual connotation of not being alone where there is love.
It is a heavenly strategy where faith and trust combine like a turtle-dove from above.
The strategy I took to keep him from harm needs a second look.
Keeping Ophelio safe meant taking away his freedom like a closed book.
A tip to remember is that my cat helped take away my fearful tears cried.
Feeling need to protect him projected his sadness and depression (to be safe) inside.
What happened next was a test of faith to allow Baby her freedom, too.
She had been an indoor cat whose life inside made her Blue.
She leaped with joy once she was released to feel and breathe the clean fresh air! This was my celebrating freedom from fear with grateful love to share.
