How to Get Rid of Eye Infections
- 1). Make an appointment with your eye doctor to diagnose the disease. Some eye infections can become severe, leading to permanent damage, if untreated. Should you notice any symptoms such as discharge, redness or pain see your doctor for medication.
- 2). Take medication stringently as directed by your doctor. To treat the infection as quickly as possible, continue to take your medication as directed and never skip doses during treatment. Wash hands thoroughly before administering medication to eyes.
- 3). Do not rub or touch your eyes, or the area around your eyes. Your hands carry oils and bacteria that can make an eye sickness even worse so avoid contact with eyes until it has cleared up.
- 4). Do not wear contacts during your eye infection. Wear glasses and wash them once in the morning and at night with some antibacterial soap and water to prevent bacterial buildup. Dry thoroughly each time with a clean towel. Also avoid eye makeup and creams during your eye infection.
- 5). Keep your hands clean. Even if you are consciously trying to avoid touching your eye, you may slip up and bacteria on hands can worsen an eye infection, so make sure to wash your hands constantly with antibacterial soap.
