How to Treat a Well That Is Acidic
- 1). Test the water using a water test kit to determine the acidity level. Water test kits are available at any water supply company as well as many home improvement stores. Look for one that specifically tests for the water pH level or acidity level. The pH level will read below 7.0 if the water is acidic.
- 2). Install a Soda Ash Feeder into the well. The main component of this system is called a metering pump and is used to dispense soda ash into the water. Carefully install the feeder by following the instructions provided with it.
- 3). Pour soda ash and water into the metering pump compartment of the Soda Ash Feeder until a solution of 10 percent is achieved. This equates to approximately 3 pounds per 5 gallons of water, although you should follow the directions supplied with the Soda Ash Feeder.
- 4). Turn the well pump on and allow the water to circulate for approximately 15 minutes.
- 5). Retest the water using a well water testing kit to see if the pH level has been raised above 7.0.
