Toxins

• Several toxic components collide to make oleander one of the most toxic plants is existence. The plant contains cardiac glycosides known as nerioside and oleandroside. It also contains saponins, neriin and several other toxins.
  
  

Symptoms

• Should a person or animal ingest oleander, several systems in the body react. Oleander affects the nervous system by creating a sense of confusion or depression. The cardiac system responds to oleander ingestion with low blood pressure, slowed heartbeat and weakness. Other symptoms include vomiting, blurred vision, headaches and diarrhea.
  
  

Fatality

• The smallest ingested bit of oleander causes a reaction; even eating honey produced by bees that visited oleander flowers causes a reaction. If enough oleander is ingested, it can prove fatal.
