How to Replace Speakers in a General Motors Car
- 1). Wrap the flat head screwdriver in a shop rag.
- 2). Wedge the tip of the flat head screwdriver into the small notch cut into the side of the speaker cover. Most General Motors vehicles have a notch cut into the speaker cover exactly for this purpose. The shop rag will prevent accidental scratching of the trim.
- 3). Pry up on the speaker cover to remove it.
- 4). Remove the screws that hold the speaker in place. On the smaller speakers at the front of your vehicle, called "tweeters," there are normally only two screws that hold the speakers in place. On the larger speakers, called "mids," there are four screws holding the speakers in place.
- 5). Pull the speakers forward and out of the speaker cage.
- 6). Unplug the factory speaker connector from the back of the speaker.
- 7). Plug the factory speaker connector into the new speaker.
- 8). Mount the speakers and secure them in their speaker cage with retaining screws.
- 9). Mount the speaker cover and press it until it snaps (locks) into position.
