How to Make Child Curtains
- 1). Measure the height and width for the desired curtain. It is usually a good idea to let the curtain cover an extra 6 inches of the wall in all directions for blocking out light.
- 2). Cut the fabric to the desired size, adding 2 inches to the width and 7 inches to the height.
- 3). Cut the lining fabric to the exact measurement of the desired curtain size. Lining fabric can be purchased from any fabric store and is typically a flame retardant, thick synthetic fabric meant to block out light.
- 4). Pin the lining fabric so that it is 1 inch from both the bottom and sides. There will be a large amount of extra curtain fabric along the top.
- 5). Fold the curtain fabric in by 1/4 inch and then 1/2 inch and pin it in place. The curtain fabric should now cover the ends of the lining fabric, except for the top.
- 6). Sew the hem all the way around using a straight stitch.
- 7). Fold the top fabric over until it covers the lining fabric by 1 inch and pin it in place.
- 8). Sew the top down over the fabric. Run a straight and then a zigzag stitch along this line for better support and durability.
- 9). String the new curtain on your curtain rod and hang the rod.
