Are Discount Dental Plans Worth It?
Are discount dental plans worth it? Is this real? How come I never heard of this kind of a plan before & how do they work? That's a question I get asked almost every single day.
My response is, "Yes, I DO think they're worth it!" Understanding What A Discount Plan Is - First of all, one needs to know that you have to join a discount plan as a member.
Most offer individual plans starting around $7.
00 a month and depending on what you want to include, others offer bundled programs.
Some offer a member a "free" vision care program ( where you can get discounts on eye care and eye wear) while others package discounts together and offer a discount dental plan, discount prescription drug program, a discount chiropractic program AND a vision program bundled together for a monthly fee.
In your selection process you need to decide if you just want to find a stand alone program or will you like to have a discount Rx plan as well? Before You Sign Up -
Once you find a plan that meets your needs and become a member just present your ID Card when you arrive at your dentists office.
You'll get a discount on most treatments performed and you them pay the dentist directly.
No paperwork to fill out at all.
My Experiences - Do I use a discount dental plan? Absolutely! I have saved $1,000 on a bridge, $380 on a crown, $50 on my routine check-ups, etc.
in the last year alone.
MOST of the web sites you find are operated by "independent representatives" or "affiliates" of a specific dental plan.
Your business is important to them so if you call them from a phone number advertised on their web site and they respond well to your needs and/or questions - go ahead and sign up through their web site!

- Before you sign up for a dental plan, be sure and look for providers in your area! EVERY plan has a "network" of dentists and it'll do you no good if you enroll online only to discover that the closest dentist to you is 100 miles away!
- If you have a dental emergency, be sure that the dental plan you want to sign up for is effective immediately! There are a couple of sources out there online that have a 4-5 day waiting period before you can use the plan.
READ THE SMALL PRINT! - Have a question about the plan? Is there a contact number on the web site? Call it - see if someone answers or even if the number is legit.
Don't worry if you get a voice mail - sometimes the reps selling the dental plans are bust so leave them a brief message and see if they call you back.
