How to Destroy Spyware on My Computer
- 1). In the Windows Start Menu, click on Programs, then Accessories, then System Tools, and then finally on System Restore.
- 2). Select the option "Restore my computer to an earlier time."
- 3). On the next screen choose a restore point that will restore your computer to its settings before the spyware infection.
- 4). Consent to the system restoration, and once it has finished, run a spyware-removal program.
- 1). Download two or three spyware-removal programs. Choose ones that are free and reputable, like Ad-aware and Windows Defender.
- 2). Download the latest updates for each program, to ensure up-to-date and maximum protection.
- 3). Disconnect the computer from the internet and then run all the downloaded programs in succession so that they complement one another, catching the spyware programs the others have missed.
- 1). Download Microsoft's free Process Explorer, a more complicated version of its Task Manager program.
- 2). Install and run the program. Look out for running applications that appear out of the ordinary. If you are unsure about an application's function, research it at Uniblue's Process Library (see Resources below) or any other online database or forum.
- 3). Run spyware-removal programs again to ensure that the spyware is destroyed.
- 1). Download and install the free program HijackThis, which will create a text record of all processes on your machine that spyware may have altered (see Resources below).
- 2). Run the program and save the text of the report.
- 3). Type the phrase "hijackthis forum" into your web browser's search bar to search for online forums dedicated to analyzing the results of HijackThis reports.
- 4). Post your process report to the forum and then follow the advice of its professional community.
